Changes in mask regulations for Canadian air travel

One of the most important tools in reducing the spread of COVID-19 and keeping each other healthy is the use of effective masks or face coverings.

Information about measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 is constantly evolving, including about what the most effective type of face coverings are.

Guidance this month from Transport Canada has advised aircraft operators to prohibit the use of masks with exhalation valves, also known as “vented masks”. The Greater Toronto Airports Authority is following this guidance, prohibiting vented masks in the airport.

Masks with exhalation valves may not have consistent safety standards for filtering and may not effectively protect against the spread of respiratory droplets believed to spread COVID-19.
